Top 3 Weight Loss Traps To Avoid
Share
When it comes to weight loss, I always preach to my clients the “big three” core principles that must be adhered to if you're looking to have a successful weight loss journey. These principles are:
- Being in a caloric deficit
- Training hard
- Getting enough sleep
Now as simple as those may sound, many still struggle to follow their plan due to other weight loss traps that surface. Below are the top 3 weight loss traps that I typically see throw people off the most when it comes to their journey!
1. Not Being Patient
We live in an instant gratification society and unfortunately weight loss is far from an instant gratification process. It took months of overeating and minimum exercise to get you out of shape, and guess what?! It’s going to take several weeks or months to get you back into shape.
But the beautiful thing is, that is okay. It gives you time to LEARN. Learn your body - which foods make you feel your best, which workouts get you the most fired up, which supplements work the best for you, etc.
Be patient and trust the process!
2. Going Too Hard, Too Fast
If you’re like most people, whenever you start a new endeavor in life you jump right in full steam ahead. And this totally makes sense on the surface, as you are excited, motivation levels are high, and you're ready to get to work.
However, this sometimes can lead to feelings of being overwhelmed with the program, which can ruin that motivation pretty quickly.
A great example of this is something I see happen all the time. Many individuals choose to drastically cut calories out of the gate when they start their journey (please don’t ever do this….) and on top of that, they adopt an excessive exercise regimen that they ultimately can’t keep up with. And guess what?! Between the extremely low calories and insane workout schedule, they quickly become overwhelmed and give up completely.
Again, weight loss requires patience. It’s about building life long healthy and sustainable habits. So don’t just jump right into your journey. Take your time and build/ follow a program that fits your daily schedule and is tailored to your life/ goals.
3. Not Having a Clear Plan
We all heard the saying “failing to plan is planning to fail” and this is spot on when it comes to weight loss journey.
Simply saying “I want to lose weight” is not good enough anymore. You need to be more specific with your approach.
One thing I have my on-boarding clients do is write down how much weight they want to lose and the date that they ideally would like to attain that goal. Once we have these two points in play, we can start designing the training and nutrition plan to help achieve these goals.
Taking a targeted approach to weight loss will help build that momentum throughout your journey and will allow you to sustain that as you go throughout.
Well there you have it, the top 3 weight loss traps that I see the most when it comes to one’s weight loss journey! I hope these points will help you out and put you on the right track to get the most success from your weight loss journey! If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment below!
